Our Mission
At the Pet Assistance League of Northern California, our mission is to provide compassionate care, temporary shelter, and loving homes for animals in need. We strive to rescue and rehabilitate animals, offering them a second chance at a fulfilling life. We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, community education, and the humane treatment of all living beings. Together, we aspire to create a region where every animal receives the care and love they deserve, and no pet is left behind.

FAQs
-
Start by browsing our available animals either on this website or through PetFinder. Once you’ve found a furry friend you’re interested in, fill out an application (linked at the top of our website).
Interviews for our adoptable dogs are conducted by a volunteer adoption counselor by appointment after reviewing the application. Appointments are not made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our focus is making the best match between our adoptable animals and the prospective adopters and not simply completing an adoption. If we feel the animal you are applying for is the best match for your family one of our adoption coordinators will contact you to set up a meeting.
Please do not be concerned if we don’t contact you. We are a volunteer-based organization and we are only able to call back the people we feel the animal would be a good match for.
Once you are contacted and have met the animal, one of our volunteer adoption counselors will interview you. If it’s been mutually decided that the animal would be a great match for your family, please note that you may not be able to take the animal home the day of your interview.

Our adoption fees cover vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other medical expenses given to the pet prior to adoption. $200 for dogs and $50 for cats.
-
Yes, as part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership, all pets available for adoption are spayed or neutered. This helps control the pet population and contributes to the overall health and well-being of the animals.

Your donation plays a crucial role in making a positive difference in the lives of animals in need. It helps us cover essential expenses such as veterinary care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and general well-being. Additionally, your support enables us to maintain safe and comfortable shelters, provide nourishing food, and offer behavioral training to enhance the chances of successful adoptions.
-
-Adopters must be at least 18 years-old and be prepared to provide identification.
-All cats/kittens are required to go home in a carrier.
-If you adopt a dog or cat, you must agree to have your pet spayed or neutered if it is not already altered. Your adoption counselor will make arrangements for spay or neuter surgery as part of the adoption process.
-You must agree to provide adequate exercise, food, water, shelter, vaccinations, medical care, grooming, identification, lifelong care and love for your new pet.
-You must adhere to state and local ordinances pertaining to animal care and control.
-Animals will not be adopted to research institutions, to anyone who sells animals to research institutions, or to persons with a history of animal abuse or neglect.
-Pet Assistance League of Northern California reserves the right to deny the adoption of any animal.
***NOTE: There is a two-week “trial period” after an animal is adopted. If, for any reason, an animal must be returned to us during the first two weeks after the adoption, we will either fully refund the adoption fee, or help to find an animal that would be a better match for your family.
